The subject Accountancy is one of the most scoring subjects for students of Class 12th Commerce stream. Accountancy is a practical subject so it naturally requires a lot of practice. It is a numerical based subject and you need to have good command over ledgers, debiting and crediting balance sheets and even journal.

Pre Exam Tips:

  • Attend every class of Accounts

It’s very important to attend every class of accounts. If you miss a single class you will miss important concepts. So foremost attend all classes with great attention.

  • Books

Refer to books referred by CBSE and NCERT. Study as per syllabus. Practice sample Questions and understand examples by practicing them regularly and if you have any doubt note down and ask your friends, teacher or anyone who has good command over accounts.
Some renowned reference books for class 12th Accountancy are D.K.Goel, T.S.Grewal, P.C.Tulsian and V. Wason.

  • Make Notes

The best way to simplify your accounts preparation is make self written notes. Write down notes chapter wise, pen down their headings, important definitions, advantages and disadvantages, formulas, and any complex calculations. Try writing in brief, don’t make notes too lengthy. 

  • Formats

Pay special attention to formats for journals, Ledgers and Balance sheets. Draw proper formats and also focus on writing narrations. In exams Give narrations with journal entries, show your work notes clearly with appropriate statements, do your calculations in a separate rough column or on the last one or two pages of the answer-sheet.

  • Practice, practice and practice

An account is not a subject to memorize or mug up concepts. It’s a numerical paper and to have a command over this subject you need lot of practices. Practices previous years Question papers, Sample Papers. By practicing different question paper you will be aware of question types and also enhance your knowledge. You will gain a lot of confidence with this as you will be able to practice according to the pattern of questions, typology and methodology of how examiners set the question papers and what type of questions you will face.

Exam Tips:

  • Before you start the exam, utilize the first 15 minutes to scan the paper. Read the question paper thoroughly before jumping to write the answers. 
  • Among the questions with internal choices, select the ones that you plan to attempt, and frame outline of the answers you are going to write for these questions. 
  • Follow a pattern. For example, in case you start with long answer questions, complete that section and only then move to short or very short answer section. 
  • While making formats of Journal / Ledger / balance sheet or any statement use pencil and not pen. 
  • There are a few accounting requirements which you need to take care like writing Dr. for the debit amounts, Cr. for the credit amounts, and headings like Date, particulars, New Indian Rupee symbol and amount etc. 
  • Highlight the important points and write your answer in points to enhance visibility. 
  • Maintain legible handwriting and good presentation. 
  • Do not leave out any question. 
  • Working notes and rough calculation should be neatly and clearly done in the space provided. 
  • Always keep some time for revision before time completes of exam.
